How to Design a Little Girl's Fairytale Bedroom
- How to Design a Little Girl's Fairytale BedroomBy Joann MeansEvery little girl lives in a fairy tale storybook world all her own, so why not help her bring that passion and creativity into her actual living environment?A custom theme bed is the perfect way to set the stage for your little girl's fairy tale fantasy. Be it a modest forest hut or a decadent princess castle, it's now possible to make your little girl's bed stand out as the centerpiece of a whole storybook reality. And with today's developments in creative carpentry there's no reason anymore for a bed to be just a bed. It can now be a full-fledged multi-functional magic kingdom where a little girl can not only get a good night's sleep filled with sweet dreams but where she can also frolic and play. Loft beds and canopy beds help add to the fairy tale mystique, as do multiple levels that allow her to climb, slide, and crawl around and through, allowing her multiple settings for the various scenes of her fairy tale romance adventure.Custom bedding, drapery, and throw pillows can unify the theme, adding further splashes of magic to her fantastical realm, be they bedecked with images of her favorite fairy tale characters for her to share her dreams with or twinkling, shooting stars for her to make wishes by.Fairy tale worlds are filled with vibrant colors and both the custom theme bed and the rest of room surrounding it should be filled with the same eye-catching vividness that fills her fantasies. Bright pinks, reds, blues, and yellows make a custom fairy tale bedroom come alive. Touches of glitter or other reflective surfaces will make more than her eyes sparkle - they'll make the whole room sparkle. And fancy borders in lace or floral molding or other such touches of simple elegance add both depth and enchantment to the overall atmosphere.Painting murals befitting of your little girl's fantasy world help extend the theme beyond the bed to the rest of the bedroom in a relatively easy and affordable manner. Paint the forest creatures that live in her enchanted forest. Paint elves, gnomes, and fairies too. Paint tall trees and vibrant flowers and sinuous vines across her private landscape. You can even paint a river, stream, pond, or waterfall running through the scene if you like. And above it all, paint a sunny blue spring sky where it's always clear and bright. There's no shortage of storybook stories a little girl can act out when she has her very own custom fairy tale themed bed and bedroom. Let her be carried away into boundless worlds of the imagination without her ever having to leave the safety and comfort of home. Because, after all, there's no place like it.Joann Means, interior designer, and her husband Johnny Means, master craftsman, have spent the last several years bringing fairy tales to life for little girls and boys alike, far and wide. Their creations are both beautiful and functional, stimulating a child's fantastic imagination and never-ending craving for fun and excitement while at the same time serving a parent's need for safety and security. Come see the enchanted realms the Means' have already created for other little girls and boys at Sweet Dream Children's Interiors http://www.sweetdreambed.com/Whether she imagines herself a princess or a witch, a fairy or a humble maiden, a flower or a swan, your little girl can have her dreams come true with a custom theme bed and bedroom designed and built by the expert minds at Sweet Dreams Children's Interiors http://www.sweetdreambed.com/

To Seal or Not to Seal?
- To Seal or Not to Seal?By Garret McGinnisSealing your pavers is a wise decision. Much like you should weather proof your wood deck with a product like Thompson's Water Seal, applying a sealant to your brick pavers will help prolong the life of your pavers.Pavers are an aesthetic material. Functional, yes, however, most people agree that the primary value pavers bring to a home is their visual impact. Sealing pavers helps to add to this value. A sealer will protect them from premature fading due to strong or direct sunlight. You will be able to clean the pavers easier once they have a sealer on them. Water will bead on top of the pavers after a hard rain, just like it beads on your car after you've had it waxed. Mold cannot as easily take a foothold in the natural pours of the bricks, as those pours are now sealed. And most significantly, sealer will darken the pavers. When pavers are sealed, they have a wet look to them. Generally, the wet look is very appealing as it makes the rich, vibrant colors of the pavers stand out more prominently. The sealing process normally takes two days. The first day the pavers will be pressure washed and cleaned. Any stains, mold, or mildew will be washed off of the surface of the pavers. Once they have been washed, it may be necessary to add more joint sand in between the bricks in order to stabilize the field. This step is not always necessary. Normally, newer installs will not require more sand as the pavers have recently been installed and there's a sufficient quantity. In older paver applications, a touch up of the joint sand is recommended after the pressure washing process. Next, the pavers must dry completely. Most paver sealers are solvent based, not water based. The use of a solvent based sealant requires a low moisture content. If the pavers are sealed, while damp, with a solvent based sealer, a white, cloudy residue will form on the surface of almost every brick. It is, therefore, imperative that the pavers are completely dry before the sealer is applied. The next day, the sealant is applied. To apply the sealer, we recommend using an air sprayer versus a paint roller technique. We apply two medium coats across the paver area, allowing about an hour between each coat for dry time. It is important to not apply too thick a coat as the sealer will not properly penetrate the pours. Once the second coat has been applied, let the sealer dry overnight before using the area. When asked whether a sealer should be applied, we consistently recommend that it should. If you have recently just installed pavers or if you've had pavers for ten years and you want to freshen them up, cleaning and sealing them is a sound investment in their well being. It is not a necessary step to owning pavers, but one that will allow you to enjoy them looking beautiful for a long time.To find out more about sealing your pavers, contact Florida Paver Sealers today!Garrett McGinnis407-575-6081http://www.paverweb.com/

How to Replace Windows by Yourself
- How to Replace Windows by YourselfBy Tom KnappAfter reading a window replacement estimate, and once you've caught your breath again, you may be considering a do-it-yourself replacement window project. Replacing windows yourself is not unlike what a professional window company would do, but with a few less extras. Before considering your own window replacement project, keep in mind that replacement windows can vary in their installation instructions, so it's important to pay close attention to those instructions when replacing your windows. You will need a few things before getting started. Having the right tools for a job is always wise - both for your sanity and for the success of the project. The following are window replacement tools and materials needed for the job:A dripless caulking gun and caulking tubesA squareWood shimsTape measureMiter sawHammerCordless drillScrewdriverWood chiselUtility knifeSmall prybarReplacement windowRemove Old WindowsWith tools in hand, take measurements of your window (inside the house) from the inside of the window jamb to the inside of the opposite jamb. Windows can warp and skew over time, so make sure to measure at bottom, middle and top. All measurements should be equal or within one quarter inch. If not, choose the smallest measurement as your guide. Now take vertical measurements, measuring from the inside of the sill at the top to the inside of the top window jamb at the bottom. Measure at the left, middle and right, taking the smallest measurement. Keeping the smallest measurement ensure that the replacement window will fit in the opening. Gaps can be filled in later.Working from inside the house, it's time to remove the old window. Using the prybar, screwdriver and utility knife, remove the stops. The stops are the thin, vertical pieces of wood that prevent sashes from falling inward into the house. Be careful not to damage the surrounding materials as you work the window out. A quality utility knife allows you to easily and safely slice any paint that is adhering the stop to the window frame. Once you've created a gap, you can switch from the utility knife to the prybar. Shims are also useful as they protect the surrounding materials when using the prybar or hammer claw. Set the stops aside for later use. Then, remove the inside sash and cut any sash cords or chains (found on old windows). Let the weights fall into their pockets and cut away any exposed rope and let the rest fall down. Slide the outside sash down and remove and discard the parting beads, which are the vertical strips that keep the sashes on track. Remove the outside sash but leave the outside stops intact.Clean up and prepare the inside faces of the window jamb and sill so they are ready to accept the new replacement windows. You will want to sand any splintered wood, patch holes with wood putty, and fill large holes with bits of fiberglass insulation.Install New WindowBefore doing anything else, set the new window in the existing window opening to see how it will fit. Position the window sashes within the new window unit at the center of the window unit. So you can see the four mounting holes on the sides of the window unit, slide the bumper stops toward the center. With your caulking gun, caulk along the inside of the outside stops on the jambs. Mark the sill for the sill angle and caulk and install the sill angle. Now insert the header or expander on top of the window unit and caulk along the top. Use the provided screws to secure the header. Place the window in the opening, using your square to check all four corners for squareness. If needed, tap in shims where needed to even out the window. Secure the window with the mounting screws on each side of the jamb. Adjust the header until it closes any gaps between replacement window and window frame. Again, use the provided screws to keep the header in place.Test the smashes for smooth sliding, using the adjustment screws to adjust operation. Caulk inside the window and install the stops that you saved with finish screws.Enjoy the natural light and insulation your new window provides.SafeCutters distributes the Klever Kutter and Klever Koncept, two of the safest utility knives available. Klever Kutter virtually eliminates the risk of workplace injuries, while the permanently shielded blade protects packaged products. It has been approved by the Department of Homeland Security for safe air transport.
