Oklahoma City Factoid:
A civic initiative named "MAPS for Kids" is attempting to remedy the problems of the inner city district. It will provide new schools for the central city and improve their concatchment areas by moving certain schools closer to wealthier neighborhoods. A sort of "reverse white-flight" is the underlying concept of initiative with the old decrepit inner-city schools being renovated or rebuilt and new technology being made available. An example of this includes John Marshall High School in North Oklahoma City, once said to be the worst public school in the state, is being rebuilt on land closer to Lake Hefner. It is hoped that the new school, complete with facilities and attractions familiar in many suburban districts, will attract the higher income families and thus improve the Oklahoma City district. However, controversy over the relocation of the high school has also raised questions over the wisdom of relocating a historically African-American high school to a predominantly white area. "MAPS for Kids" is funded with a voter-approved one-cent sales tax over seven years, which expires in December 2007.  Oklahoma City Belly Dancers

Belly Dancers News and Information
  • Tight skirts and non stretch fabric?
    • I want to make a tight egyptian style skirt that clings a little around the hips and bum. I know a lot of these are made up in lycra fabrics but what about non stretch? I have a beautiful silk charmeuse that would look lovely all ruched and clingy...But where do I put the zip? I've been looking up professional costumes online to see if it's possible but the costumes on dahlal rarely specify the fabric, so I'm wondering if it's lycra as standard or whether some higher end costumes are also made from non stretch. How much ease should I draft in if I use it? I don't want it loose and running around and I don't want to restrict my movement too much. Having said that, I like a belt to sit fairly tight on my hips so I would prefer this over a stretch costume that allowed for more movement.Any advice? TIA!xxx

  • New Belt is finished!
    • Yay, it's done!!! How excited I am that I finished my coin shell belt for my costume, some of you may remember my coin bra, this belt is to go with that coin bra! Now I just need to make the Harem pants, the choli, and I'm done! Yay for the hard stuff being done! Here's some pictures These were all taken with my phone, so they're crappy. I even bought a new camera just so I could take pictures, and my computer won't talk to it! How crappy is that! Anyway, sorry about the quality, my phone takes crappy pictures. Here's another oneand lastly, this picture doesn't do the front justice, it's made out of silk that is grape and red so that when you turn it it changes from grape or red. It's awesome! Too bad it didn't come out well in the picture. Anyway, sorry for the close up of my blinding white belly....What an aweful lot of work! And I'll post better pictures of the details when the whole costume is finished!
