Private schools in West Des Moines include Dowling Catholic High School and Iowa Christian Academy. Valley High School moved to its present location in 1967. Before that it was located in a three story brick building at 8th and Hillside. It was built in 1917 and torn down in 1979. Valley High school in known throughout Iowa for its athletic achievements. Its football team, the Valley Tigers has won nine championships out of ten. The girls swim team, coached by Mark Lapham was undefeated for two years straight.
