Juneau's roads remain separate from other roads in Alaska and in the Lower 48. Local opinions on constructing a road link to the outside world are mixed. Some see such a road as a much-needed link between Juneau and the rest of Alaska. Others are concerned about environmental, social, and economic impacts. There were plans to connect Juneau to Haines and Skagway by road, but the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities announced in 2005 that the connection was to be provided partly by road, and partly by fast ferry. Construction was scheduled to begin in 2007 on this 65-mile-long road, but permits had not been granted for a 16-mile II area in Berner's Bay, as that LUD area has national protection as a wilderness area. The road plan, announced under out-going Governor Frank Murkowski, was subsequently withdrawn by Governor Sarah Palin promptly after she took office in December 2006. Juneau Boats & Yachts

Galaxy Megayacht
- Galaxy megayacht is the fruit of formed alliance between Azimut/Benetti group and Fincantieri Yachting and the first project, realized on a new shipyard in Livorno. It began to drew attention long before completion. A notable producer chosen so unusual ultra-modern materials for this yacht and so cardinally changed the design, that many began to talk about new direction in a yachtbuilding. Marine architects of the Benetti were devising the 56-meter yacht together with a customer, calmly and resolutely going away from established traditions. A future owner, young energetic Australian, described his understanding of comfort and designers "inserted" this dream within the hard bounds of Lloyd and MCA classification. But how they did this!

- The recently launched "Wear It Ohio!" life jacket safety awareness campaign takes on added importance as boaters head out to enjoy the state's waterways, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft. "Our message is that boating safety begins with the choices boaters make before leaving the dock, which should include properly wearing an approved life jacket or vest," said Pamela Dillon, chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft. Last year, 14 Ohioans died in boating-related accidents on state waterways and included 12 persons who were not wearing a life jacket. Nationally, boating deaths fell from 710 in 2006 to 688 in 2007, though the number of boating accidents and related injuries rose significantly,according to the U.S., Coast Guard. An estimated 3 million Ohioans enjoy recreational boating each year. State watercraft officersand local marine patrols will be out in force this season to enforce state boating rules and help educate boaters on safe boating practices. Boaters also are reminded to limit alcohol consumption and stay sober while on the water. A boat operator is considered legally impaired when blood alcohol content reaches .08 percent.
