In the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans, Louisiana and surrounding area, the New Orleans Hornets of the National Basketball Association temporarily relocated to the Ford Center, playing the majority of its home games there during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. The team became the first major-league sports franchise to play regular-season games in the state of Oklahoma. The Hornets permanently returned to New Orleans for the 2007-08 season, and host the 2008 NBA All-Star Game. The Hornets played an exhibition game, attended by 6,324 fans , in Oklahoma City on October 9, 2007 against the Houston Rockets, as a way to say thanks for the temporary hosting.
